Losing a tooth — or several teeth — changes more than just your smile. It changes the way you eat, the way you speak, and often the way you feel about yourself in everyday moments. At Uzmanlar Dental Clinic in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, our implant specialists have been restoring smiles and function for patients from across Europe and beyond since 1995.

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed directly into the jawbone, where it fuses with the surrounding bone through a natural process called osseointegration. Once integrated, it functions exactly as a natural tooth root — providing a stable, permanent anchor for a ceramic or zirconium crown that looks and feels indistinguishable from your own teeth. Unlike bridges or removable dentures, implants preserve the jawbone, maintain facial structure, and require no compromise to the teeth around them.

Istanbul has become one of Europe’s most sought-after destinations for implant treatment — offering the same internationally certified implant systems, the same clinical protocols, and the same standard of care found in the UK, Germany or Scandinavia, at significantly more accessible prices.

Key Benefits of Implant Treatment

Dental Implants vs. Other Tooth Replacement Options

Many patients considering dental treatment in Turkey compare implants with dental bridges and removable dentures. Here’s how they differ:

  • Dental Bridges: These require grinding down adjacent teeth to support the bridge, which can weaken them over time. Additionally, bridges need replacement every 5–15 years, increasing long-term costs.
  • Removable Dentures: While affordable, they can be uncomfortable, cause speech difficulties, and require adhesives to stay in place. Over time, they also contribute to jawbone deterioration.

Dental Implant Procedure: Step-by-Step

1. Initial Consultation & Treatment Planning

A specialist implant dentist will evaluate your oral health using X-rays or a CT scan to determine if you have enough bone density for the implant. If needed, bone grafting may be recommended.

2. Tooth Extraction & Bone Grafting (If Necessary)

If the tooth has not yet been removed, it will be extracted. If the jawbone is too thin, a bone graft may be placed to strengthen the area before implant placement.

3. Implant Placement Surgery

The titanium implant is surgically inserted into the jawbone. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia, ensuring a painless experience.

4. Healing & Osseointegration (2-6 months)

During this time, the implant fuses with the bone, creating a solid foundation for the artificial tooth.

5. Abutment Placement

Once healed, a small connector piece (abutment) is placed on top of the implant to hold the new tooth.

6. Custom Dental Crown Placement

A high-quality ceramic or zirconium crown is attached, giving you a natural-looking, functional tooth.

How Long Does the Dental Implant Process Take?

The full treatment, including healing time, typically takes 3 to 6 months, but in some cases, immediate-load implants (same-day implants) are available.

Our implant procedures are performed by Dr. Ahmet Saglikli 8 years of implantology experience.

Implant Systems We Use at Uzmanlar Dental Clinic

The quality of your implant outcome depends substantially on the implant system used. At our clinic, we work exclusively with implant brands that are backed by decades of clinical research, independent long-term studies, and global regulatory approval.

Our implant cases use systems from manufacturers including Straumann, Nobel Biocare, and Osstem — names that represent the highest tier of implant engineering available. These systems are manufactured to exacting tolerances, designed for long-term osseointegration success rates above 95%, and supported by extensive peer-reviewed clinical evidence.

When you receive an implant at Uzmanlar Dental Clinic, you receive documentation of the exact implant system used — including the brand, model, and dimensions — so that any future maintenance, anywhere in the world, can be carried out with complete accuracy.

All-on-4 Dental Implants in Istanbul

For patients who have experienced significant tooth loss across an entire arch — or whose remaining teeth are no longer restorable — the All-on-4 technique offers a life-changing solution with a faster timeline and fewer implants than traditional full-arch restoration.

What is All-on-4?

The All-on-4 concept uses just four strategically positioned titanium implants to support a full fixed bridge for either the upper or lower jaw — or both. Two implants are placed vertically at the front of the jaw, and two are angled at up to 45 degrees toward the back, making use of the denser bone available in that region and often eliminating the need for bone grafting entirely.

Who is All-on-4 suitable for?

All-on-4 is particularly well-suited for patients who:

  • Have lost most or all of their teeth in one or both arches
  • Are currently wearing removable dentures and wish to replace them with a fixed solution
  • Have been told they lack sufficient bone density for conventional implants
  • Want a significantly faster treatment timeline than traditional full-arch implant procedures

Following a thorough assessment — including 3D CT scanning to map bone density and anatomy — our implant specialists design a personalised treatment plan. In many cases, patients receive a provisional fixed bridge on the same day as implant placement, meaning they leave the clinic with a functional set of teeth. The final, permanent bridge is fitted once osseointegration is confirmed, typically three to six months later.

For patients travelling from abroad, we coordinate appointments to minimise the number of trips required and provide full written documentation for any follow-up care needed at home.

Bone Grafting and Sinus Lifting: When Are They Needed?

Not every patient has sufficient bone density at the implant site to proceed directly to placement. This is particularly common in patients who have had missing teeth for some time, since the jawbone naturally resorbs — or shrinks — in areas where there is no longer a tooth root to stimulate it.

Bone grafting involves adding bone material to a deficient area of the jaw, creating the volume and density required to support a stable implant. The graft material used at our clinic is biocompatible and clinically validated; in many cases, it is fully replaced by the patient’s own new bone over a period of several months.

Sinus lifting is a specific procedure required when placing implants in the upper back area of the jaw. The sinus cavity sits close to this region, and when bone height is insufficient, the sinus floor is gently raised to create the space needed for the implant. This is a well-established procedure with a strong long-term success record.

Both procedures are performed by experienced oral surgeons at our clinic under local anaesthesia. Where bone grafting is required, it is sometimes possible to perform it simultaneously with implant placement — reducing the overall treatment timeline. Your CT scan results will determine the most appropriate approach for your specific anatomy.

FAQS

Everything you need to know about Dental Implant Treatment

With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. The titanium post itself is designed to be a permanent fixture — clinical studies document implants still functioning well after 25 to 30 years. The ceramic or zirconium crown on top has a typical lifespan of 15 to 20 years before it may require replacement, depending on wear and oral hygiene habits. Routine dental check-ups and good home care are the most important factors in long-term implant success.

Most healthy adults with adequate jawbone density are good candidates for implants. The key requirements are: healthy gums free from active periodontal disease, sufficient bone volume at the implant site, and no uncontrolled systemic conditions that significantly impair healing (such as poorly managed diabetes). Smoking is not an absolute contraindication but does reduce success rates and slows healing — we discuss this candidly with every patient. The only way to confirm suitability with certainty is a clinical examination combined with a CT scan, which we carry out at your first appointment.

The dental implant process typically involves multiple visits. The initial visit includes consultation and planning, followed by implant placement. After a healing period of a few months, during which the implant integrates with the jawbone, the final crown is placed. The exact timeline can vary based on individual cases.

Implant treatment is not as painful as it seems. Since it is performed under local anesthesia, the patient does not feel pain. Moreover, a tooth is completed in 3-4 minutes on average.

Before traveling, ensure all arrangements are confirmed, including treatment plans, accommodation, and transportation. It's advisable to understand the procedure, recovery time, and any necessary follow-up visits. Consulting with your local dentist before and after the trip can also provide additional support.

In many cases, yes. Bone grafting and sinus lifting procedures can restore the bone volume needed to support implants in areas where it has been lost. These are well-established techniques performed routinely at our clinic. Following grafting, a healing period of several months is required before implants can be placed. In other cases — particularly for full-arch treatment — the All-on-4 technique angles implants to make use of available bone, often eliminating the need for grafting entirely.

Osseointegration is the biological process by which the titanium implant bonds directly with the surrounding jawbone. Titanium has a unique property — it is accepted by bone as if it were a natural structure, and over time the bone grows into the microscopic surface of the implant, creating a bond that is effectively permanent. This process typically takes between 8 and 16 weeks in the lower jaw and 16 to 24 weeks in the upper jaw, where bone density is naturally lower. During this period a temporary restoration is worn, and normal daily activities can continue without restriction.

Dental implants are cared for in almost exactly the same way as natural teeth. Brush twice daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush, floss or use interdental brushes daily, and attend routine dental check-ups every six months. Unlike natural teeth, implants cannot develop decay — but the gum tissue around them can become inflamed (a condition called peri-implantitis) if oral hygiene is neglected. Keeping the gum tissue healthy is the single most important factor in long-term implant success.

For single implant cases, most patients require two trips: one for implant placement and one (typically three to six months later) for crown fitting. For All-on-4 cases, it is often possible to have provisional teeth placed on the same day as surgery, and many patients complete the full process in two visits. We always provide a clear, personalised timeline before treatment begins so you can plan your travel with confidence.
